Spooky Spider Tortilla Chips Recipe

These quick and easy spooky spider tortilla chips make a fun snack and a great healthy Halloween party food idea for kids!

Halloween is just around the corner and I’ve got lots of fun new Halloween recipes to share with you over the next few weeks! These spooky spider tortilla chips are super easy to make and perfect for healthy Halloween party food kids will love.

I cut these tortilla chips into spooky spider shapes but you could use any Halloween cookie cutter to make different shaped Halloween tortilla chips – why not try pumpkins, ghosts, bats or witchy black cats!

If you’re prepping for a party, these are great to make in advance. You can cut the shapes out and bake them just before they’re needed or bake them in advance and serve them cold – they’re delicious warm or cold.

The baked tortilla chips will stay crispy for a few days too so you can easily get ahead with your Halloween food prep!

Spider Tortilla Chips

Ingredients:

3 tortilla wraps

2 Tbsp olive oil (or oil spray)

2 Tbsp poppy seeds
salsa to serve

Method:

Start by preheating your oven to 180°C (Gas mark 4/350°F). Brush or spray 2 large baking trays with oil.

Using a spider-shaped cookie cutter, cut as many spider shapes as you can from the tortilla wraps.

Pop the tortilla spiders on the baking tray and brush or spray them with oil.

Sprinkle the tortilla spiders with poppy seeds. For a really thick coating, pour the poppy seeds into a shallow bowl and dip the oiled side of a tortilla spider into them, then return to the tray and repeat with the remaining spiders.

Bake in the oven for 5-8 minutes until crispy and starting to brown round the edges. Make sure you keep a sharp eye on your tortilla chips as they cook as they can burn very easily.

Once baked and crispy, remove from the oven and leave to cool for 10 minutes on a wire rack.

Serve with salsa for dipping.

Enjoy!

Note: Prepping for a party? Make ahead and leave the tortilla chips to cool completely before storing in an airtight container until ready to use.  As long as they are cooled properly before storing, the tortilla chips should stay crispy for 2-3 days.
